Visitors heading to Kruger National Park are facing major disruption after access to Orpen Gate was cut off following a road collapse.

Orpen Gate is currently inaccessible after a section of the R531 (Orpen Road) and a bridge were washed away by heavy rainfall.

What is happening at Orpen Gate

The R531-2 (Orpen Road) has been completely closed and declared unsafe after severe damage.

Alternative access to Kruger National Park

Travellers are advised to use other gates:

  • Phalaborwa Gate
  • Paul Kruger Gate

Motorists from Mpumalanga should use the R40 via Hoedspruit to bypass the affected area.

Expect delays and increased traffic on alternative routes.
