The Met Gala returns in May 2026 with the theme Costume Art, and the announcement of its co-chairs has already set the tone for a landmark event. Beyoncé joins Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour, bringing together influential figures from entertainment, fashion, and sports.
Beyoncé Returns to the Met Steps After a Decade
The 2026 gala marks Beyoncé’s first Met appearance in ten years. According to Vogue, her last attendance was in 2016 for the Manus x Machina theme, where she wore a striking Givenchy Haute Couture gown. Her return guarantees major media attention. Cameras will be fixed on the star who has never failed to deliver standout Met Gala moments.
The Vision Behind the Theme: Costume Art
The theme was curated by Andrew Bolton, head curator of the Anna Wintour Costume Centre at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Bolton’s exhibitions have shaped global fashion conversations. His work includes Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, the 2017 Rei Kawakubo retrospective, and Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, one of the museum’s most-visited exhibitions.
His involvement signals a conceptually rich and visually ambitious Met Gala.
Record-Breaking Momentum from 2025
Last year’s theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, brought in a record US$31 million, surpassing the US$26 million raised in 2024. With such strategic co-chair selection and a universal theme, 2026 is set for another strong year.
All signs point to a powerful comeback, with the Met Gala once again uniting creativity, culture and philanthropy at the highest level.
