Canal Walk Shopping Centre, the iconic Cape Town retail and leisure destination, is offering shoppers more variety than ever before, with new store openings and experiences.

Canal Walk, co-owned by Hyprop Investments (80%) and Ellerine Bros Ltd (20%), is at the forefront of the Western Cape retail landscape and one of the most successful shopping centres in the country. It is consistently evolving to meet shoppers’ needs and the latest retailer concepts.

The super-regional shopping centre continues introducing new on-trend stores, concepts and designs to delight and innovate in the changing retail landscape, ensuring that customers can have it all – from A to Z at Canal Walk. Its success, scale and agility have continued to secure Canal Walk’s highly sought-after tenancies and leading brands – there’s something for everyone from all the brands that shoppers know and love. Many of Canal Walk’s stores are the first and only of their kind in Cape Town and even South Africa.

Among the great stores to open in Canal Walk this year are Freedom Adventure Park, Baseus, Silki, Deidre and Co, Old School, Refinery Junior, Turkish Döner Haus, Shift Espresso Bar and Chateaux Gateaux. Keeping it fresh, several retailers underwent refurbishments and introduced gorgeous new-look stores, including New Balance, Forever New, Converse, Sissy Boy, Skechers and Mr Price Sport.

There’s more to come, with new stores such as the large international retailer, JD Sports still to open this year, as well as Bootlegger Coffee Company, Paul French Bakery and Restaurant, Sea Weeds & Sea Storm, Saint and Summer, Whitehouse and iStore Pre-Owned. There are also new-look stores to launch before the end of the year from Edgars, Sterns, Telkom Direct and Jack Friedman Jewellers.

The very exciting opening of the 2400m² flagship Freedom Adventure Park took place in March. They have trampolines, an obstacle course, pedal karts, drop slides, a zip line and much more activities, as well as a fully equipped pizzeria offering breakfast, lunch and dinner options.

Canal Walk continues to dominate its trade area, attract the best retailers and report almost full occupancies. The new and refurbished stores are all trading well and add a widened product offering for the benefit of all shoppers and tenants. Canal Walk is delighted to welcome the new portfolio of brands offering customers an exciting mix of quality products and fantastic deals.

During its 24 years, the retail icon that is Canal Walk has grown in relevance and appeal, and today it spans a sizeable 147,834sqm gross lettable area. It has achieved this growth while staying true to its market and focusing on its goal to be an exceptional place and offer guests an authentic experience.

Canal Walk’s impressive success isn’t built on retail and leisure alone but also on its commitment to service excellence and meeting the needs and expectations of customers and the community.

Contributing to environmental sustainability, Canal Walk has a Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) 5-Star Existing Building Performance rating thanks to its eco-friendly operation, including on-site recycling and composting and water-efficiency initiatives.

Over the years, Canal Walk Shopping Centre has supported many social causes and community organisations and hosted an exciting, ever-changing line-up of award-winning promotions and live events, which add to the exceptional overall Canal Walk experience.

Key to Canal Walk’s popularity are its superbly convenient trading hours from 9am to 9pm daily, wide variety of brands, leisure, entertainment, and convenience, all located under one roof, and excellent accessibility.

The centre benefits from a text-book location at the heart of the Century City development – a 250ha business and lifestyle precinct with a mixed-use urban environment which combines office, retail, residential, and leisure components – which is being developed around the mall by Rabie Property Group, and at the same time growing Canal Walk’s primary shopper market.  The centre enjoys excellent access directly off the N1 and is centrally situated between the Cape Town CBD and surrounding suburbs.

Canal Walk aims to stay ahead of what shoppers want and keep pace with what the latest retailers have to offer to constantly enhance our exceptional retail experience.
