South African motorists could face petrol price increases of up to R3 a litre in October 2026, potentially pushing inland prices close to the R30 mark.
Projections indicate that 93 unleaded petrol could rise by R2.82 a litre, while 95 unleaded could increase by R3.
Diesel prices are also expected to climb, with a projected increase of R3.08 a litre for 50ppm diesel.
The adjustments are expected to take effect on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, subject to official confirmation.

The latest projections point to substantial increases across all four fuel grades.

Prices are inland estimates per litre and have not yet been officially confirmed.
If the projections materialise, motorists using 95 unleaded petrol could pay R29.92 a litre, just eight cents below R30.
Meanwhile, 50ppm diesel could reach an estimated R33.04 a litre.
What is driving the expected fuel price increase?
International oil prices are a major factor behind the projected increases.
According to reports from AutoTrader and CAR Magazine, escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and energy supply disruptions have pushed Brent crude oil prices above $100 a barrel.
The rand’s performance against the US dollar has also influenced the outlook.
Although the local currency has traded relatively flat during September, it has not provided sufficient relief against higher international fuel costs.
The combination of elevated oil prices and exchange-rate movements has contributed to the projected October increases.
When will the October fuel prices be confirmed?
The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) is expected to announce the official October fuel price adjustments before they take effect.
The final figures will be based on data from the Central Energy Fund.
Until the announcement is made, the projected increases remain estimates and may differ from the final adjustments.
