DStv shakes up packages: Here’s what you’ll pay from 17 September

DStv is overhauling its packages for the first time in 15 years, introducing new entertainment and sports options while shifting some of its biggest channels and sporting competitions into more accessible packages.

The new Starter, Select, Sports and Movies & Series packages will join Premium from 17 September 2026 across satellite and DStv Stream.

Among the biggest changes, Mzansi Magic and full PSL coverage are moving to Select, while the new Movies & Series package includes M-Net and kykNET.

Sports fans also get a dedicated DStv Sports package featuring 17 sports channels and every PSL, Premier League and UEFA Champions League match.

Prices start at R150 a month for Starter on satellite and R99 on Stream.

Premium satellite remains R979 per month, but there’s now another option for customers willing to commit for two years: a new 24-month contract brings the price down to R799 per month, including the Access Fee, matching the Premium Stream price.

How much will the new DStv packages cost?

Here’s what subscribers will pay from 17 September:

• Starter: R150 on satellite or R99 on Stream
• Select: R339 on satellite or R299 on Stream
• Sports: R479 on satellite or R399 on Stream
• Movies & Series: R500 on satellite or Stream
• Premium: R979 on satellite or R799 on Stream
• Premium 24-month satellite contract: R799 per month, including the Access Fee

The 24-month Premium deal represents a R180 monthly saving compared with the standard R979 satellite price.

What you get with DStv Starter

Starter is the entry point to the new line-up, offering more than 85 channels and adding 10 channels compared with the current Access package.

The package includes Wethu+, SuperSport KICKOFF and kykNET & Kie alongside channels including Moja Love, Via, Star Life, Discovery Family and Curiosity.

Wethu+ combines Mzansi Bioskop, Mzansi Wethu and Mzansi Music into a new variety channel featuring local stories, movies, music and selected PSL weekend fixtures.

kykNET & Kie gives Starter subscribers access to Afrikaans programmes including Suidooster and Skemergrond.

Football fans also get all La Liga matches alongside selected PSL and Premier League fixtures and other matches of the week.

Starter costs R150 on satellite and R99 on Stream.

Mzansi Magic and full PSL move to Select

Select costs R339 on satellite or R299 on Stream and includes more than 100 channels.

It contains everything available through Starter, with Mzansi Magic, Discovery ID, History Channel and CNN among the additions.

One of the most significant changes is the inclusion of every PSL match live on the SuperSport PSL channel.

All DStv kids’ channels also form part of Select.

This gives more subscribers access to Mzansi Magic programmes including Nyala O and Inimba alongside full PSL coverage.

DStv Sports targets football, cricket and rugby fans

The new Sports package is DStv’s first package specifically built around sports fans.

At R479 on satellite and R399 on Stream, subscribers get more than 115 channels, including 17 sports channels.

It includes everything available through Select, meaning Mzansi Magic remains part of the package.

Sports coverage includes every PSL, Premier League and UEFA Champions League match, along with cricket previously available only on Premium.

Subscribers also get local and club rugby, including all Currie Cup and Varsity Cup matches, a URC match of the week and combat sports including UFC and boxing.

Movies & Series brings M-Net and kykNET together

Viewers more interested in entertainment have the new Movies & Series package.

It costs R500 on both satellite and Stream and offers more than 115 channels.

The package includes everything in Select alongside DStv’s entertainment channels, including M-Net, kykNET, Mzansi Magic, Discovery Channel and BBC Earth.

There are also 10 sports channels with coverage including the PSL, La Liga and Serie A, alongside Sporty TV, Blitz and ESPN.

DStv is also refreshing its movie offering with M-Net Movies+, M-Net Stars and M-Net Legends, offering more blockbuster movies, quicker access to new releases and fewer repeats.

The Premium deal that cuts R180 off the monthly price

DStv Premium remains the most comprehensive option in the new line-up, but satellite subscribers now have two different ways to pay for it.

The standard satellite price remains R979 per month.

Subscribers willing to sign a new 24-month contract will instead pay R799 per month, including the Access Fee.

That’s R180 less per month than the standard satellite price and matches the R799 Premium Stream price.

The lower satellite price comes with one significant condition: subscribers need to commit to the 24-month contract.

Premium combines everything available through Sports and Movies & Series while adding sports including Springbok and international rugby, Formula 1, MotoGP, tennis and golf majors.

What happens to existing DStv subscribers?

Existing subscribers do not need to take any action immediately.

Throughout September, customers on three existing packages will automatically move across to the new line-up:

• Access customers move to Starter
• Family customers move to Select
• Compact customers move to Sports

EasyView, Compact Plus and Premium subscribers will remain on their existing packages.

Those customers will have the option of moving to one of the new packages if they choose.

Two new channels arrive on DStv

The package overhaul also brings two new channels to DStv from 17 September.

France 24 will provide 24-hour international news in English, while Church TV joins the platform as a new faith-based channel.

More choice between sport and entertainment

The changes represent a significant restructuring of how DStv divides its entertainment and sports content.

Instead of requiring subscribers to follow a single progression through its packages, the new line-up introduces dedicated Sports and Movies & Series options.

Full PSL coverage moves into Select, while Starter gets additional football through SuperSport KICKOFF.

Sports then adds every Premier League and UEFA Champions League match, cricket and selected rugby coverage, while Premium remains the package for viewers wanting the complete sports offering.

For entertainment viewers, Mzansi Magic becomes available through Select, while Movies & Series brings M-Net, kykNET and the broader entertainment line-up together.

The five-package line-up launches on satellite and DStv Stream on 17 September 2026.
