South African motorists could see significant fuel price relief in August 2026, with early mid-July data from the Central Energy Fund pointing to strong decreases across petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin.

The early projections are being driven by stabilising global oil prices and a US-Iran truce.

Expected August fuel price changes

Current projections indicate the following possible adjustments at the pumps:

Petrol 93: decrease of about R2.02 to R2.24 per litre

Petrol 95: decrease of about R2.04 to R2.23 per litre

Diesel 50ppm: decrease of about R2.60 to R3.00 per litre

Diesel 500ppm: decrease of about R2.22 per litre

Illuminating paraffin: decrease of about R2.52 to R2.91 per litre

Relief still depends on market movements

While the early data points to welcome relief for consumers, the final fuel price adjustments could still shift slightly before the end of July.

Global oil market volatility and currency exchange rate movements remain key factors that may influence the final price changes.

The projected over-recoveries are expected to take effect at midnight on Wednesday, 5 August 2026.
